Central Asia’s only Porto-Franco opens at Navoi Airport
Date published
A ceremony at Navoi International Airport marked the opening of Porto-Franco, the only free customs zone of its kind in Central Asia.
The project is being implemented under Presidential Resolution No. PQ–50 of 9 February 2026 to improve the airport’s operational efficiency, make fuller use of its transport and logistics potential and develop international cargo services.
The zone creates favourable conditions for importing and storing goods without customs payments, processing them and carrying out import, export and transit operations. This helps cargo be cleared at the airport without unnecessary time and cost and forwarded quickly to its next destination.
The opening was attended by Alisher Klichev, Director of Navoi International Airport LLC, representatives of the Customs Committee, partner organisations and invited guests.
The airport is also expanding its aircraft handling capabilities. A new ACU — Air Conditioning Unit — has been put into operation.
The unit supplies cooled or heated air to aircraft cabins while they are on the ground. It improves comfort for passengers and crew and supports more efficient ground handling.
Porto-Franco and the new technical capabilities are an important step towards further strengthening Navoi Airport’s role as a modern international logistics centre.
