Navoi International Airport

General Information

Navoi International Airport (IATA: NVI, ICAO: UZSA) is one of Uzbekistan’s most important aviation and logistics hubs. Located in the central part of the country, the airport operates at the intersection of major transport corridors connecting Europe and Asia. Thanks to its strategic geographic position, the airport plays a key role in the development of international cargo transportation, transit operations, and multimodal logistics services.

History and Development

Established in 1962, Navoi International Airport has evolved into one of Central Asia’s most promising multimodal logistics centers.

In 1992, following a Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the establishment of the national airline Uzbekistan Airways, the airport was granted international status. Since then, Navoi International Airport has become an important component of the country's international air transport network.

Between 2006 and 2007, the airport underwent large-scale reconstruction and modernization. The airfield complex, runway, and taxiways were fully upgraded, while modern lighting systems and a new air traffic control tower were commissioned. These improvements significantly enhanced the airport’s operational efficiency and safety standards.

In 2007, a consulting agreement was signed between Uzbekistan Airways and Korean Air. This partnership marked an important step toward transforming Navoi Airport into a major logistics hub in Central Asia. As part of the development program, modern logistics infrastructure and internationally recognized management systems were introduced.

On 12 August 2010, a state-of-the-art air cargo terminal with an annual handling capacity of up to 100,000 tons was commissioned. Additional infrastructure, including parking stands capable of accommodating large aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400, expanded aviation fuel storage facilities, and modern logistics complexes, further strengthened the airport’s position in the international cargo market.

In the following years, regular cargo operations connecting Europe, Asia, and the Middle East were established through Navoi International Airport. The airport continues to serve as a vital link in the international logistics chain, supporting the growth of export-import activities and transit transportation.

In 2018, pursuant to Presidential Decree No. PF-5584, Uzbekistan Airports JSC was established to manage the country’s airports, and Navoi International Airport became part of the company.

According to Presidential Resolution PQ-430 dated 12 December 2024, key measures were defined to transfer the airport’s cargo terminal to private sector management and to restore the operations of Zarafshan Airport as a branch of Navoi International Airport. These initiatives marked a new stage in expanding logistics capabilities and developing regional aviation infrastructure.

Based on Presidential Resolution PQ-50 dated 9 February 2026, comprehensive reforms were launched to transform Navoi International Airport into an international multimodal logistics hub integrating air, rail, and road transport networks. The initiative aims to increase export and transit capacity, create new logistics facilities, and provide favorable conditions for both domestic and international carriers.

Under the approved development program, by 2030 the airport plans to:

  • Increase annual flight operations to 7,000 flights;
  • Expand passenger traffic to 150,000 passengers per year;
  • Increase cargo handling volume to 45,000 tons annually.

Additional projects include the establishment of an aircraft maintenance, repair, and painting center, construction of a new cargo terminal, development of advanced logistics infrastructure, and creation of free customs and logistics zones.

Today, Navoi International Airport contributes significantly to Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics sector through its modern infrastructure, high-quality services, and strategic geographic location. Its continuous development strengthens the country’s position within international transport corridors, attracts investment, and promotes integration into global logistics networks.

The 2026 development plans and target indicators have been incorporated in accordance with Presidential Resolution PQ-50.
